Random walks, Quantum walks, and Free Meixner Laws

In recent years, quantum walks have been studied extensively from various aspects in relation to quantum mechanics and quantum information. The concept of quantum walk was introduced as a quantum mechanical generalization of a random walk, but the correspondence is not straightforward. In this talk I will introduce the so-called Grover walk on a graph, in particular, on a spidernet, and discuss its peculiar property: localization.

 

A spidernet is a graph obtained from a rooted tree by suitably adding large cycles in each stratum defined by the distance from the root.

The free Meixner distribution appears as the spectral distribution of a spidernet [1], where the quantum probabilistic techniques are applied effectively [2]. It is well known that the spectrum of a graph is related to many properties of random walks. We will see that the spectral analysis is also applied effectively to showing the localization of Grover walks on spidernets [3].

Prof. Obata adalah Division Manager for Mathematics Group dan Deputy Director of Collaborative Mathematics Research Unit di Graduate School of Information Sciences, Tohoku University sejak tahun 2010. Beliau adalah anggota editorial board dari berbagai journal, di antaranya Probability and Mathematical Statistics, Complex Analysis and Operator Theory, Stochastic Analysis and Applications, Infinite Dimensional Analysis, Quantum Probability and Related Topics, dan Interdisciplinary Information Sciences. Beliau juga telah menulis 2 buku dan lebih dari 60 artikel dalam peer-refereed journal. Lecture series yang akan diberikan kali ini diambil dari buku Quantum Probability and Spectral Analysis of Graphs: Theoretical and Mathematical Physics yang ditulis oleh  N. Obata bersama A. Hora dan diterbitkan oleh Springer pada tahun 2007.
